Dorothy Ellen Gremaux, born December 19, 1904

Dorothy was born at Deerfield, Montana in her uncle, "Frenchy" Pernot's house. When her mother became ill with tuberculosis, Dorothy was sent to her Grandmother, Rosa Ressouches, in Pueblo, Colorado, where she stayed until her father married Edith Barney, after her mother's death. Then she returned to live with him and her brother, Faulkner ("Foxie" or "Foxy"), at Emil's ranch near Danvers, Montana. Dorothy graduated high school in Lewistown, Montana, and took normal school and became a teacher. Dorothy married (eloped)Frank W. Vanek, June 19, 1925 at Lewistown, Montana.

One of her students skipped school to stand up as witness with Dorothy and Frank at their wedding. They toured Montana for a month-long honeymoon, visiting Glacier Park.

Dorothy and Frank's children:
Loren and Lois, February 9, 1926 (twins) Arthur F. Vanek, January 24, 1927
Jerry John and Julian Emil, November 20, 1929 (twins)
Margery Ellen, August 7, 1931.

Dorothy and "Foxy" had seven half-brothers and sisters, born to their father and step mother, Edith Barney Gremaux.

Emil Gremaux had a driverless white horse. When the load was ready, it took it to the delivery point, and after it was unloaded, it returned to where it the next load was made.

Emil also had a pair of Percheron mares shipped to him from France. He was extraordinarily proud of these horses. Both were supposed to be infertile, but one bore a colt. They were unloaded at the E. B. Anderson warehouse when they were delivered. Emil's ranch was on Plumb Creek, near Danvers, Montana.

MELANIE married again, but when she died March 1, 1926 she was buried under GREMAUX name on March 3, 1926 in the Catholic cemetery, Besancon, near Fort Wayne, Indiana.

When CLARA's mother, ROSALIE moved back to her girlhood town in Indiana after divorcing LOUIS RESSOUCHES, the young and beautiful CLARA soon captivated handsome, young EMIL GREMAUX, son of ARSENE and EMILINE (MELINDA) GREMAUX. The lovers conceived a baby out of wedlock, which was a scandalous event in their small religious community. They were quickly married and sent off to a relative, FRENCHY PERNOT who had been driving bull teams in Montana. Near Danvers, Montana the young couple set up housekeeping in a dugout near Kendall, Montana.

CLARA RESSOUCHES and EMIL GREMAUX bought their license to marry in Allen county, Indiana on June 30, 1903 and were wed on July 2, 1903. They had two children:

FAULKNER (FOXY) EMIL, born December 3, 1903 (married OLENA JULIA GLADYS GATTON on August 3, 1929. They had five children, JOYCE, IRENE, BRUCE FRANK and SUE.)

DOROTHY ELLEN GREMAUX, born December 19, 1904 (married FRANK W. VANEK, son of JOSEPH and EMMA VANEK of Danvers, Montana on June ... 1925. Six children were born to them, LOREN and LOIS (twins), ARTHUR FRANK, JERRY JOHN and JULIAN (twins) and MARJORIE.)

When CLARA's delivery time neared, they went to FRENCHY's two-story, roomy house, which at that time was a stage stop. It was there that both her children were born. But soon CLARA became ill, and before long she returned to her mother in Indiana. Unable to care for all of them, FOXY and DOROTHY were seperated, he being raised by the GREMAUX family and DOROTHY staying with her grandmother, ROSALIE RESSOUCHES.

CLARA died at the age of 23, from tuberculosis, in her mother's home at 713 East Lewis Street on December 16, 1907, just three days shy of DOROTHY's third birthday. On December 18, 1907 her funeral services were held in the afternoon at 1:30 p.m. from the residence, with Rev. J. L. Hutchins of New Haven officiating. Interment was in New Haven, the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
